Avery pressed brass needlecase for storing needles.
This small figural case was produced circa 1875 by William Avery & Son of Redditch, England.
These needle cases were hugely popular during the last quarter of the Queen Victoria's reign, their figural cases were the most expensive and are now highly sought after.

This example is in good condition with age related wear, and would benefit from a clean up to restore it to its original glory.
Both sides of the picnic basket lift to place ones packets via either side. Of course picnicking was a popular family pastime in the 19th century, made more so by Queen Victoria who frequently ate 'al fresco' with her family in one of their many country estates.

Fully stamped to the base with the impressed W. AVERY & SON. REDDITCH, with registered design lozenge for the Victorian era.

It measures 5.5cm wide x 5cm tall with basket lid up
